Finding Sources in Spanish: Books & eBooks

Using Subject Terms to find Spanish-Language Sources

Once you start learning the subject terms in a subject area, it can be a helpful tool for finding relevant sources. There are quite a few subject terms that will retrieve items that are written in Spanish. A few examples are listed below.

You can search by using relevant subject terms in the library catalog. Go to the library homepage, click on Books, Journals, & More tab, enter your subject term in the box, and then select subject from the drop down menu.

Searching the Library Catalog

To find Spanish-Language sources in the library catalog, go to the library homepage and find the Search Library Catalog box. Enter your search terms in the box and click on the search button.

Once you are on the results page, scroll down until you see Language on the left-hand side of the screen. Click on Spanish and this will limit your results to Spanish-Language sources.

There are many options for limiting your search results further. If you look to the left-side of your screen, you will see that you can limit by format, location, and publication year among other options.

HathiTrust

HathiTrust provides access to over 700,000 works in the public domain that have been digitized and are now available online. You can find many historic Spanish texts using HathiTrust. You have the option search HathiTrust through its website or to find its items through the library catalog.

To find HathiTrust items through the library catalog, follow the instructions under "Searching the Library Catalog."

Once you are on the results page, select Hathi Trust, which is on the left side of the page under Collection.

Once you have limited your results to the HathiTrust Collection, you can also select a publish date if you are looking for works from a particular time period.
