Early Childhood Readers Collection

The Early Childhood Readers Collection (ECRC) includes children's literature that highlights and celebrates diversity across a spectrum of inclusion and diversity, from race to sexual orientation to gender identity and disability.

We Feel, so "WeRead"

As part of FamFair 2024, an annual community event for families and caregivers of young children centering literacy and psychoeducation, we discuss how books for young children serve many purposes such as to get inspired, to learn, and especially, to have fun. We encourage reading across purposes to build a rich literary world for children, creating immense benefits for their critical developmental years and setting them up for long-term success.

While many children's books often embed emotions as characters navigate the story plot, some books are specifically written to help children learn about emotions and develop emotional regulation skills in a more explicit way. Reading these books is a perfect setup for engaging children in explicit skill development on emotional regulation.
