The carrel room is a quiet space within the Anderson Academic Commons reserved for those currently working on advanced research projects with the University of Denver. This space is located in AAC 180 and is comprised of individually designated carrels as well as a small number of lockers, larger table tops and arm chairs. Access to the carrel room is controlled via DU ID card and is only granted to current students and researchers who have checked-out a carrel for the quarter. Due to the limited number of carrels available, you are required to submit an application prior to checking-out a carrel. Applications are approved on a case-by-case basis and require advisor confirmation as well as a library account in good standing. Continued access to the carrel room is contingent on cooperation with all library and carrel room policies.
University of Denver students who meet the following criteria are encouraged to apply for a research carrel:
• Doctoral candidates who are researching/writing their dissertation
• Masters candidates who are writing their thesis or capstone
• Undergraduate students engaged in extended research projects (e.g. senior thesis, PINS project)
Applications should be accompanied by an email from a faculty advisor confirming that the student is currently working on a qualifying research project. Please ask your faculty advisor to send a brief email confirming your status and research project to email@example.com.
Carrels are checked-out to your library account each quarter to allow for equitable use. Students may apply for a renewal each quarter as needed. The carrel reservation period begins on the first day of each quarter and continues through the following interterm.
Carrels are assigned based on the criteria listed above. The University Libraries will make every effort to accommodate researcher needs, but high demand may not allow us to assign a carrel to every applicant each quarter. If you are assigned a carrel, you will receive a confirmation email with details on how to confirm your reservation.
