Sources for Obtaining NAICS and SIC Codes
When doing business research, it is useful to obtain the NAICS codes and SIC codes. The links below will help you find the codes for specific types of industries. Using the search term coffee identifies the following as potential codes:
NAICS 722213 Snack and Nonalcoholic Beverage Bars ; SIC 5812 Eating Places (snack and nonalcoholic beverage bars)
NAICS 311920 Coffee and Tea Manufacturing ; SIC 2095 Roasted Coffee
There are also other NAICS and SIC codes that might be relevant. Use the NAICS search interface to find them.
It is important to know these codes in order to retrieve statistical information produced by the Census. You can also use these codes to search in some databases.
NAICS is the North American Industry Classification System, a standard implemented in 1997 for classifying industry, product, and establishment. Use this site to find your industry NAICS code. Click on the relevant code to read its description and to ensure that you have the right code.
SIC System Search
Standard Industrial Classification (SIC) is an industry classification system in which all Federal economic statistics are based on up to 1996. Use this site to do a keyword search to find an SIC code for an industry.

Applying NAICS Codes
One source you can use to apply NAICS codes is the Business Patterns database from the U.S. Census Bureau. This can help you determine what has been the trend in a particular industry from a National, County, Metro, and Zip Code perspective. Please note, however, that this will probably not include those establishments that are purely web-based.
