What are some of the benefits of E-books?

E-books offer many benefits over traditional printed materials. They usually cost less to purchase and maintain then print books, allowing libraries to provide more content to patrons within the same budget. E-book do not take up shelf space allowing libraries to offer far more content then would be possible with print books. In most cases e-books are searchable and printable allowing users to find and manipulate the data not possible with printed materials.

Important Notes

  • Many physical titles in University Libraries are also available as e-books. If that is the case, you will see "Online access. The library also has physical copies" in the record.
  • Due to copyright laws, there may be limits to how many pages of an E-book you can print. These restrictions vary by resource and vendor.
  • In some cases a vendor may have a limit to the number of users that can access a resource at once. If a message appears telling you that all licenses are in use, please try again later. Also be sure to exit an E-book when you are finished to ensure other users can access it.
