Overview

Your job interview process will include identifying companies / organizations to which you want to apply, finding information about them and the industry in which they participate. The sections in this area provide you with some sources that will help you do this research.

Company

Mergent Intellect and Orbis will help you find information about a company.

Use Reference Solutions to find potential companies to which you might want to apply for a job in a particular industry.

Mergent Intellect
Provides histories, financial information, and profiles of worldwide public & private companies.
Orbis
Public and private company information from around the world. Includes industry and company reports from Marketline.
Reference Solutions (ReferenceUSA)
A directory of about 44 million U.S. private and public companies. Provides addresses, contact names, estimates sales and employee figures. Users can search by SIC, yellow page heading, state, city, and down to the zip code level.

Book of Lists
This source from the Denver Business Journal identifies top companies in the Denver metro area, by different categories. Also in print for the Denver area.
Current edition at the Reserve Desk. Older editions in Reference Stacks HF1 .T66 and Hampden.

Nonprofit Sources

Foundation Directory
The nation's leading online funding research tool. Developed by the Foundation Center, a national nonprofit service organization founded over 50 years ago to help open U.S. foundations to public view.
GuideStar
Provides data on approximately 850,000 IRS-recognized nonprofit organizations.

America's Charities
This organizations provides workplace solutions "to payroll deduction charitable giving campaigns."
Center on Nonprofits and Philanthropy
This group "conducts and disseminates research on the role and impact of nonprofit organizations and philanthropy."
Colorado Nonprofit Association
This association serves nonprofits in Colorado.
Council on Foundations
This is "a national nonprofit association of approximately 2,000 grantmaking foundations and corporations."
Society for Nonprofits
This is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with members "throughout the world. Since 1983, the Society has been providing nonprofit staff members, volunteers, and board members with affordable resources and information to work more effectively and efficiently towards accomplishing their mission."
idealist.org
"Idealist is an interactive site where people and organizations can exchange resources and ideas," identify job and volunteer opportunies, etc.

Industry Resources

These databases will help you find information about an industry, which you should become familiar with when you set out on your interview.

IBISWorld (IBIS)
Provides thoroughly researched, accurate and current business information with expert analysis about economic, demographic and government data.
First Research (Mergent)
Provides industry profiles within the wide range of industries that fall under Construction and Real Estate; Public Services, Education, Recreation; Retail, Food and Agriculture; Services; Manufacturing; Technology and Communications; Transportation, Energy, Storage; and Wholesale. Note: Subscription allows five simultaneous users.
Standard & Poor's NetAdvantage (S&P)
Provides company information and industry surveys on 52 major U.S. industries, and After Market Reports (AMR) (formerly available via Thomson One).
To access After Market Reports, click the Research tab. To access the last 12 months of reports in our subscription, go to all contributors and then under Product Type, Select Aftermarket Research – Standard and then click on the Search button. When you retrieve the results, you can click on the PDF icon for a report you want, and then you’ll see an option to Download. When you click on that, you will get the report.
